Apple is adding Apple Pencil capability to the iPhone Duo, its inaugural foldable phone, via the forthcoming iOS 27.2 update. Although promised at the September product launch, users will likely not wait long for the functionality.
An informant on X reported that the iOS 27.2 release candidate, issued on Monday, includes Apple Pencil support, which functions properly. The company plans to roll out iOS 27.2 around Monday, October 26.
This schedule indicates that individuals who pre-ordered the iPhone Duo on launch day might use the stylus within days. The foldable phone hits shelves this Friday, introducing stylus compatibility shortly after hitting the market.
Still, Apple Pencil integration features a single restriction. The iPhone Duo works exclusively with the Apple Pencil (USB-C), leaving the Apple Pencil Pro and legacy versions unsupported. Buyers lacking a compatible stylus must purchase one separately. Apple prices the USB-C Apple Pencil at $79 on its US storefront. The corporation states that users can write notes, draw, and annotate files on either screen of the Duo.
iPhone Duo Could Get Reachability Later This Year
Apple reportedly intends to add Reachability to the iPhone Duo before the end of the year. This function already exists on other iPhone models, shifting the top screen area down to simplify one-handed navigation.
On the iPhone Duo, Reachability should function differently due to the larger foldable screen. Users might pull either the left or right side of the display inward with a tap. Yet, Apple has not specified which iOS version will feature this addition.
These reported updates indicate Apple wants to improve one-handed operation for its foldable device. While the iOS 27.2 update brings Apple Pencil support, Reachability might release in a subsequent software patch.
