NationPulse exists to publish fast, factual and fair journalism. This Editorial Policy explains the standards every member of our newsroom follows when we gather, check, write, edit and publish the news. It applies to every article, headline, image, video and social media post published under the NationPulse name.

1. Accuracy and verification

Accuracy comes before speed. We report only what we can verify, and we are clear with readers about what is confirmed and what is not.

  • Facts, figures, names, dates and quotes are checked against primary material: official statements, court records, government and company documents, data releases and on-the-record interviews.
  • Claims made by people or organisations are attributed to them, and are not presented as established fact unless independently confirmed.
  • Numbers are checked for context, so that readers can understand their scale and meaning.
  • Where information cannot yet be confirmed, we say so plainly, or we wait.

2. Editorial review

No story is published on NationPulse without being reviewed and approved by an editor. The editor checks the story for accuracy, fairness, clarity, legal risk and compliance with this policy, and is responsible for it once it is published. Sensitive stories, such as those involving allegations of wrongdoing, children, crime or security, receive additional senior review.

3. Independence

Our editorial decisions are made by our editors alone. Advertisers, sponsors, commercial partners, governments, political parties and pressure groups have no say over what we cover or how we cover it. Commercial staff do not take part in editorial decisions. See our Ownership & Funding page for more detail.

4. Fairness and balance

  • We give people and organisations that are the subject of serious criticism or allegations a fair opportunity to respond before publication, and we report their response fairly.
  • We seek out relevant perspectives on contested issues and avoid presenting one side as the whole story.
  • We do not distort facts, quotes or images to support a particular viewpoint.

5. News, analysis, opinion and sponsored content

Readers should always know what kind of content they are reading.

  • News reports what happened, based on verified facts.
  • Analysis and explainers help readers understand the context and consequences of the news, and are grounded in evidence.
  • Opinion pieces and columns express the views of their writers and are clearly labelled. They do not necessarily reflect the views of NationPulse.
  • Sponsored or paid content is always clearly labelled and kept separate from our journalism.

6. Sources

We prefer named, on-the-record sources, so readers can judge the information for themselves. We use anonymous sources only when the information is important to the public, cannot be obtained in any other way, and the source has good reason to remain anonymous, such as a risk to their safety or livelihood. In every such case, an editor must know the identity of the source and approve its use. We never pay sources for information.

7. Headlines, images and video

  • Headlines and summaries must accurately reflect the story. We do not use misleading or sensational clickbait.
  • Photographs and video must not be altered in a way that misleads. Illustrations and graphics are used to explain stories and are never presented as photographs of real events.
  • We take particular care with graphic or distressing images and use them only when they are necessary to tell the story.

8. Breaking news and updates

Breaking stories move quickly. We publish what has been confirmed, clearly signal when a story is developing, and update it as new facts are verified. Significant updates are marked with the time they were made. If early information turns out to be wrong, we correct it in line with our Corrections Policy.

9. Corrections and complaints

We correct errors promptly and transparently. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate, unfair or breaches this policy, please read our Corrections Policy and contact us at contact@nationpulse.uk. Every complaint is reviewed by an editor.

10. Ethics

This policy works alongside our Ethics Policy, which covers conflicts of interest, gifts, privacy, minimising harm and the conduct we expect from everyone who works with NationPulse.
