During the opening ODI tri-series match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan star batter Babar Azam entered the record books as only the fifth Pakistani to reach 16,000 runs in international cricket against Sri Lanka.

After pushing his total past the threshold, the 32-year-old placed his name alongside an exclusive group of Pakistani batsmen featuring Javed Miandad, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Babar Azam now holds 16,038 total international runs, breaking down to 4,771 runs across 66 Tests, 6,671 across 144 ODIs, and 4,596 across 145 T20Is. His career statistics also feature 111 half-centuries and 32 centuries.

Sitting at the top of the nation's all-time run list is former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq with 20,541 runs from 495 matches, while Younis Khan follows with 17,790 runs from 408 matches.

Most International Runs for Pakistan

  • Inzamam-ul-Haq: 20,541
  • Younis Khan: 17,790
  • Mohammad Yousuf: 17,134
  • Javed Miandad: 16,213
  • Babar Azam: 16,038

In addition, Babar sits just one century away from surpassing Saeed Anwar for the highest number of ODI centuries by a Pakistani player.

Both men hold 20 ODI centuries, though Babar accomplished the feat in far fewer innings. One more hundred will secure the record for him entirely.

He aims to claim the spot of third-fastest batsman to 21 ODI centuries as well. Virat Kohli of India achieved this in 138 innings, while Hashim Amla of South Africa managed it in 116 innings.

Pakistan reached 62-2 after 12 overs during the match, with Babar staying unbeaten on 27 from 34 balls alongside four boundaries.

Newcomer Saad Baig stood at nine runs from 11 balls after hitting two boundaries.

Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka secured both dismissals, sending back Fakhar Zaman for 16 and Saim Ayub for seven.
