Pakistan's imports of completely built-up (CBU) cars rose sharply in September 2026, prompting worries among domestic auto parts producers about falling business, lower output and possible job cuts.
New-vehicle imports climbed more than sixfold from August, reaching 2,407 units, while used-car imports more than doubled to 2,454 units, giving a combined total of 4,861 vehicles.
Abdur Rehman Aizaz, chairperson of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers, cautioned that the surge could impact roughly 1,200 local suppliers because imported cars arrive fully assembled, bypassing locally made components.
He also noted that used-car imports provide consumers with a broader range of choices at competitive prices.
