Daily adjustments to petrol and diesel prices began on July 17, 2026, as the Federal Government shifted its policy through the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. Ex-depot rates for petroleum products now change every 24 hours, a step taken by authorities to protect the domestic economy from intense market instability.

Consumers are facing higher costs under the updated price schedule. The regulatory body confirmed a price hike for petrol, known formally as Motor Spirit, along with a modest increase for High Speed Diesel.

Motor Spirit previously cost Rs. 381.14 and increased to Rs. 382.02, marking a difference of +0.88. High Speed Diesel moved from Rs. 389.27 to Rs. 389.80, showing an increase of +0.53.

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

Global energy supplies experienced their biggest disruption since the 1970s, prompting this pricing policy change. The 2026 US-Israel war on Iran caused a massive international fuel crisis. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was blocked by Iran in late February, cutting off a critical maritime chokepoint that usually handles about 25% of global seaborne oil trade. The United States responded by imposing a wide naval blockade on Iranian ports.

A brief truce in June brought temporary relief before collapsing completely on July 8 after renewed attacks on commercial ships. Iran shut down the strait again right away, and US forces responded with multiple rounds of airstrikes to reopen the passage. Ongoing military exchanges and blockades keep choking international oil deliveries, forcing authorities to update pump prices daily.
