The Federal Government officially shifted to a strategy of adjusting petrol and diesel prices every 24 hours. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority began revising ex-depot prices daily starting July 17, 2026, in order to shield the local economy from extreme market volatility.

Consumers are seeing a downward trend in the newly updated rates. OGRA announced a significant price decrease for petrol, known as Motor Spirit, alongside a considerable drop in the cost of High Speed Diesel.

For Motor Spirit, the previous price on 17/10/2026 was Rs. 386.30, and the revised price on 20/10/2026 is Rs. 381.14, showing a difference of -5.16. For High Speed Diesel, the previous price was Rs. 396.96, and the revised price is Rs. 389.27, showing a difference of -7.69.

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

This pricing shift directly results from the largest disruption to the world energy supply since the 1970s. A global fuel crisis was triggered by the 2026 US-Israel war on Iran. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was blocked by Iran in late February. This critical maritime chokepoint previously handled about 25% of the world's seaborne oil trade, and the United States retaliated with an extensive naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Hopes for stability were raised by a temporary ceasefire in June, but the truce collapsed on July 8 after renewed strikes on commercial vessels. Iran closed the strait again immediately, leading the US military to launch consecutive rounds of airstrikes. These relentless crossfires and blockades continue to strangle global oil shipments, forcing OGRA to make daily adjustments at the pump.
