Federal investigators in Karachi started probing claims that individuals applying for protector clearance faced illegal charges beyond official costs. The inquiry focuses on the PECHS Block 6 office belonging to the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, where an immigration task group verified initial grievances from four residents before passing the case to the Karachi Anti-Corruption Circle.

Citizens Ahmed Mukhtar, Muhammad Naveed, Asad Sabir, and Ahad Hussain stated that an agent named Nadeem Arain gathered a total of Rs. 76,400 from them for this clearance.

Investigators later brought the complainants to the office, where they pointed out former bureau worker Nadeem Ahmed, prompting questioning by agents.

Ahmed reportedly outlined a setup for gathering and splitting extra money during the interrogation, even when applicants brought fully prepared paperwork.

The suspect stated that the unlawful fees reached Rs. 20,000 for African nations, Rs. 10,000 for Canada and Europe, alongside Rs. 4,000 for Gulf states.

Investigators are also looking into claims that state workers and outside individuals split earnings with top management via weekly payouts, with certain transactions supposedly done in dollars.

Agency personnel are currently reviewing paperwork and verifying the statements independently, though investigators have not yet confirmed the existence of the payout network or staff participation.
