Ahead of his team's upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan, Sri Lanka head coach Gary Kirsten took a mountain biking trip through the Margalla Hills in Islamabad and mentioned his desire to visit the northern regions of the country during his stay.

The Pakistan Cricket Board posted a video on X featuring the ex-South Africa opening batsman riding his bicycle through the hills and enjoying the scenery.

Kirsten Praises the Margalla Hills

During the video clip, Kirsten expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in mountain biking, calling it his favorite hobby. He explained that cycling allows him to experience a nation's natural environment closely.

He termed the Margalla Hills spectacular and stated he had a great time on the route. Kirsten noted that he wakes up early and typically wraps up his cycling sessions between 8 am and 9 am.

The Sri Lanka coach commended the mountains of Pakistan as well, pointing out the northern regions specifically. He mentioned a wish to travel north if he manages to secure a day or two of free time during the trip.

Familiar Territory for Kirsten

Kirsten has extensive experience with Pakistan cricket. He took the position of white-ball head coach for Pakistan in 2024, though he resigned in October of that same year after just a few months on the job.

In March 2026, Sri Lanka Cricket named him head coach for the men's team on a two-year contract lasting until April 2028. Earlier in his career, he coached India to victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup and managed South Africa between 2011 and 2013.

Tri-Series Begins Today

On Sunday, October 18, Sri Lanka starts its tournament matches by playing against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. England participates as the third squad in the ODI tri-series, which is scheduled to conclude on October 31.
