Residents of Hyderabad are paying up to Rs. 580 per kilogram for Liquefied Petroleum Gas as ongoing natural gas shortages drive up costs, pushing buyers to pay nearly double the official rate while high demand and alleged black marketing take hold.

For the current month, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority set the domestic LPG price at Rs. 279.34 per kilogram.

Shopkeepers throughout the area are demanding between Rs. 550 and Rs. 580 per kilogram, increasing financial pressure on families already dealing with long gas cuts.

Daily consumption in the city has surpassed 50 tonnes because people rely more on this alternative fuel for cooking due to unreliable service from the Sui Southern Gas Company.

This environment has caused regular disputes regarding costs between buyers and vendors.

Abdul Qadir, who serves as general secretary of the LPG Union Association Hyderabad, claimed that authorized producers provided LPG to sellers at Rs. 520 per kilogram or higher, forcing vendors to include transport costs and other fees in the final amount.

"OGRA has fixed the price after including all applicable taxes, but producers themselves are supplying LPG at rates far above the notified price," Qadir said.

He mentioned that the group filed multiple complaints with the regulatory authority and authorized LPG firms, yet costs stayed the same.

Roughly 250 stores in the Hyderabad district offer LPG, which is relied upon by families, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, mini-taxis, Suzuki vehicles, eateries, restaurants, and tea shops.

The increased fuel expense has also led to costlier food.

The delivery timetable from the Sui Southern Gas Company worsened the issue, providing households with gas for three hours per session, three times daily, while weak pressure and delayed restoration disrupt daily life.

In a separate event, female inhabitants of Amani Shah Colony located in Latifabad organized a demonstration at Khuda Hafiz Board Chari over extended gas outages, blocking traffic and shouting slogans against management from the Sui Southern Gas Company.
