More than 200 foreign nationals were detained by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency during a massive cyber fraud operation in Islamabad, where officers confiscated various equipment including servers and laptops from the detained individuals.
Initial raids started in Sector I-9, according to media reports. Investigators gathered details from the detained suspects to carry out additional raids throughout Islamabad in Sectors F-8, F-10 and E-11, resulting in more foreign nationals being detained across four capital sectors.
NCCIA personnel seized advanced servers, laptops, computer hard drives and additional electronic hardware during the operations, and these items will serve as crucial evidence. Authorities have not yet publicly revealed the specific nationalities of the suspects or the precise details of the suspected fraud.
A separate investigation by the NCCIA resulted in the arrest of a Khanewal resident accused of distributing 5.1 million fake postage stamps inside the United States.
Investigators stated that the man created a website to circumvent the operations of an overseas parcel delivery business. He operated the scheme for three years, continuously offering fraudulent international postage stamps to customers.
The NCCIA valued the counterfeit stamps at $126 million, translating to upwards of Rs35 billion. Authorities are continuing their inquiries into this matter.
