The University of Karachi administration announced that any program or event on its grounds must obtain prior consent, and guest attendance also needs approval from the Vice Chancellor through the Registrar's Office.

Under the new directive, no academic activity or gathering can occur at the university, nor can any political or non-political guest take part, without the Vice Chancellor's prior sign-off.

A formal notice has been released by the university's Registrar outlining these requirements.

The decision follows a series of events held before the semester break. One day earlier, MQM-Pakistan leader and Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal attended a Department of Computer Science function.

Provincial Minister for Boards and Universities Ismail Rahu was also slated to join the closing session of that event.

Previously, a programme organized by the Department of Mass Communication featured social-media influencers, former federal minister Asad Umar and television drama artists.

The notice informs all deans, directors and department heads that any program, seminar, conference or similar gathering inside the university must be cleared by the Vice Chancellor via the Registrar.

Officials are instructed to file their approval requests at least 15 days before the intended date, using the prescribed proforma and attaching all necessary details and documents.

No event will proceed without the competent authority's consent through the Registrar. Invitations to ministers, dignitaries or special guests will only be sent by the Registrar's Office on behalf of the relevant department after receiving the required approval, and departments may not issue invitations themselves.

The notification adds that any breach of these rules will be treated seriously and could lead to disciplinary action under university regulations.
