Following a fatal school roof collapse in the Dir Colony of Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration instructed the Private Schools Regulatory Authority to draft thorough safety guidelines.
A formal notification states that these upcoming regulations will address the structural integrity of private school facilities, adherence to building standards, and routine safety checks.
Authorities included classroom limits in the framework to stop overcrowding, alongside rules for emergency exits and student evacuation procedures.
The authority received orders to collaborate with technical bodies during the drafting process and must deliver the proposal and suggestions to the Education Department in seven days.
This action comes after the October 15 incident at Al-Khair Education Center, where a collapse caused numerous deaths among children and teachers while leaving 52 individuals injured, though reported death counts differed.
Law enforcement previously took school owner Khan Muhammad into custody concerning suspected construction flaws, and the police report noted that administrators ignored warnings regarding crumbling walls and ceilings.
While Muhammad blamed the disaster on rain, education authorities characterized the structure as run-down.
These safety guidelines are still being written, and the seven-day period applies to delivering the draft rules rather than enforcing them throughout private institutions.
