Nearly 100 new dengue infections emerged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, establishing the highest daily count of 2026 as October brings an escalating health threat to the region.

Data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System shows that 99 patients tested positive over the preceding 24 hours, pushing the overall provincial count to 4,091.

Active cases stand at 144, while 3,946 individuals have recovered from the illness, though a resident of Tank recently died from the virus in Dera Ismail Khan.

Kohat leads the province with 2,567 infections, followed by Peshawar at 566, Bannu at 192, Khyber at 120, and Haripur at 112.

Additional districts report cases as follows: Charsadda has 75, Abbottabad 71, Nowshera 51, Karak 43, Mansehra 38, Dera Ismail Khan 35, Swabi 28, and Mohmand 14, with remaining areas seeing single-digit totals.

Throughout October, Kohat has borne the brunt with 80 cases since month start, outpacing Bannu at 24 and Peshawar at 18.

Health authorities are working to manage the outbreak in Kohat, where increasing patient numbers strain local medical facilities.

Specialists note that conditions are milder than last year, which saw upwards of 6,000 cases statewide, including more than 1,000 in Charsadda after multiple union councils experienced outbreaks.

Even so, Kohat has turned into a fresh focal point for the virus this year, and health officials have already pinned down the causes driving up infection rates.

Specialists caution that upcoming weeks stay dangerous because weather patterns continue to favor mosquito reproduction, which might drive up numbers further.
