Commercial driving license holders currently registered in Lahore must complete new medical evaluations. Traffic officials introduced this requirement to strengthen driver checks following a collision in Garhi Shahu that resulted in the deaths of three family members.

Lahore's chief traffic officer explained that color blindness tests, eyesight checks, and medical examinations are already compulsory for new commercial license applicants. Moving forward, the department will also mandate fitness reassessments for individuals who already hold commercial licenses.

The CTO reported that personnel are currently gathering records for commercial drivers and have already revoked the licenses of 170 individuals possessing criminal backgrounds.

Statistics provided by the traffic chief show that commercial vehicles account for 8% of total vehicles on the road, yet they are involved in 45% of collisions. He noted that most fatal crashes stem from driver negligence.

Additionally, the CTO cautioned that officials will grant no leniency regarding fitness certificates for commercial vehicles. Vehicle condition now shares top priority in enforcement alongside driver health and behavior.

These new regulations follow the Garhi Shahu incident, which renewed attention on road safety issues. Nonetheless, the traffic chief mentioned that accidents documented this year show a 16% decrease relative to the previous year.
