The Lahore Electric Supply Company is now billing consumers caught stealing electricity the total expense for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure smart meter, switching from the cheaper static meter fee charged previously for these violations.
People caught tampering with or altering single-phase meters to commit electricity theft will get a demand notice totaling Rs14,400 for an AMI smart single-phase meter, per the updated directive.
Demand notices at this updated pricing are already going out from the utility. Previously, individuals involved in meter tampering faced charges for a static meter totaling Rs5,500 via a demand notice. The updated fee represents an increase of Rs8,900.
Static meters have been swapped out for AMI smart single-phase meters within LESCO demand notices addressing tampering and theft incidents.
