Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz responded to the detention of a man accused of assaulting a petrol pump employee in Lahore, calling the move "a slap in the face of arrogant people."
She posted a video of the arrest on social media, stressing that wealth, influence or social standing should not place anyone above the law. Her comments highlighted the need to protect workers and ensure equal treatment.
The episode took place in Jubilee Town, Chohung, Lahore, after a petrol pump employee asked a customer to stop smoking for safety reasons. The customer allegedly attacked the worker and threatened him before departing.
Police said they identified the suspect through the vehicle's details and later took him into custody, also recovering a weapon at the scene.
The case has drawn renewed focus on the safety and dignity of workers who encounter abuse while on duty. Nawaz's reaction emphasized accountability and the principle that every citizen must be treated the same under the law.
Further legal steps against the arrested individual are expected to follow the appropriate procedures.
