Federal authorities informed the National Assembly on Friday that completing the nationwide deployment of 5G technology will require an additional two years, following parliamentary concerns regarding poor network coverage, sluggish internet speeds, and unreliable mobile connections.
Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology Sabeen Ghouri stated during Question Hour that 5G is currently accessible in 24 cities, adding that efforts are ongoing to enhance connectivity prior to broadening the network footprint to more regions.
Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, an MNA representing the Pakistan Peoples Party, pointed out grievances regarding slow 4G and 5G performance in Nawabshah and other regions, demanding a joint strategy to boost internet performance and resolve public complaints.
The proceedings became tense when session chair Abdul Qadir Patel asked Ghouri to define 5G. She could not remember the definition immediately, leading Aseefa to propose that fellow members assist her.
Noor Alam, an MNA from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, asked why users pay for 5G when the network lacks consistent availability. Patel questioned the urgency of launching advanced technology while current networks are unstable, asking if 4G had died to make way for the new network.
