Federal authorities in Lahore apprehended two individuals on allegations of operating an unlawful call center that harvested banking information from people living in the United States to execute illicit money transfers, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency reported.
Atif Ameer, the additional director for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency Lahore Zone, stated that officers spotted unusual behavior at the establishment situated on Main Boulevard in Gulberg by using open-source intelligence. Law enforcement secured a search warrant from a court prior to conducting the raid.
Authorities named the detained individuals as Irshad Ahmed Butt, who owned the call center, and Aurangzeb, who worked as an employee.
Initial inquiries revealed that the pair reached out to residents of the United States while posing as representatives of insurance firms, according to Ameer.
They asked for debit and credit card numbers under the pretext of running an insurance promotion, then used those details to conduct unauthorized money transfers.
Ameer mentioned that officers seized cellular phones and portable computers during the raid. An inspection of these gadgets allegedly revealed internet-based calling programs and records connected to financial deception.
The agency declined to disclose the total number of affected individuals or the specific sum of money involved in the fraudulent scheme.
