Social media users in Pakistan face potential legal action for online messages and posts that break national laws, according to a warning issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
During a press briefing, Additional Director Atif Ameer stated that a cyber patrolling unit watches social media platforms to spot suspected violations. He explained that primary targets involve anti-state content, online harassment, reputation attacks, and the targeting of women.
Ameer pointed out that the agency also concentrates on unlawful call centres suspected of cybercrimes and online fraud. Recent raids in Lahore resulted in hundreds of arrests connected to alleged honey-trapping, harassment, and fraud.
Digital crimes such as harassment, online blackmail, and private data misuse fall under NCCIA investigations. Official agency guidance advises individuals to guard personal information and report instances of online abuse.
