Pakistan is preparing for the Rabi 2026 to 2027 cropping season with a comfortable overall fertilizer supply situation, according to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. Authorities evaluated distribution plans, pricing, demand, and inventory levels to guarantee that agricultural workers can obtain necessary products.
During a Tuesday session of the Fertilizer Review Committee, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain evaluated supply needs and availability for the active Rabi period. He restated official promises to keep adequate supplies available, protect agricultural workers from market exploitation, and provide backing during planting activities.
Government projections estimate urea consumption at 3.596 million tonnes for the Rabi 2026 to 2027 period, calculated from provincial requirements, compared to 3.563 million tonnes used during the prior season.
Urea Stocks Exceed Demand, but DAP Supply Falls Short
Total available urea is expected to reach 3.95 million tonnes, which includes 765,000 tonnes carried over in opening stocks along with 3.185 million tonnes produced locally.
Anticipated urea offtake sits near 3.596 million tonnes, keeping projected availability higher than expected demand. These statistics show that estimated urea inventories will easily cover anticipated consumption throughout the season.
Projected offtake for Diammonium phosphate, or DAP, reaches 838,000 tonnes based on calculations from the previous five years. This figure shows a 0.4 percent rise compared to the Rabi 2025 to 2026 cycle. Still, total DAP availability sits at an estimated 766,000 tonnes, falling 72,000 tonnes short of expected offtake.
Total fertilizer offtake should grow by 0.8 percent relative to the last Rabi cycle. The committee examined distribution setups and supply needs while authorities work to preserve availability and satisfy agricultural demands.
