Home-based workers across Pakistan continue to struggle financially, receiving wages as low as Rs50 per hour while dealing with increasing household expenses, electricity bills, and living costs.

This situation came to light during a Lahore gathering that observed International Home-Based Workers Day. Attendees noted that pay rates have stayed the same for three years, creating severe difficulties for families trying to buy essentials.

Participants at the gathering also raised issues regarding gender-based wage discrimination, workplace harassment, and unpaid labor.

Jamila, who serves as vice president of the Home-Based Workers Union, stated that repetitive tasks and extended working hours lead to physical health issues for laborers.

She called on home-based workers to set up local union branches so they can jointly advocate for improved working conditions, fair pay, and stronger rights protection.
