Pakistan built a climate forecasting platform that generates outlooks up to 12 months in advance. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb talked about this technology and plans to upgrade its functions during an October 23 meeting with outgoing National Disaster Management Authority Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik and incoming Chairman Lieutenant General Hasan Khattak. Aurangzeb pointed out that population growth and climate shifts represent two major threats to the nation, affecting economic stability, public funds, food security, and local populations. He mentioned that officials also raised these climate concerns with global partners at the recent World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings.

Pakistan Seeks to Improve Climate Early Warnings

Malik updated the finance minister regarding the forecasting tool and current work to upgrade its power. Aurangzeb stressed that agencies need to turn predictions into fast choices and proper early warning steps, backed by teamwork with the Pakistan Meteorological Department and other groups. NDMA leaders presented plans involving Next Generation Technologies and the Global Resilience Hub, designed to shift the country from delayed emergency reactions to advanced, tech-based danger prevention. These programs may help share knowledge, display the prediction technology, and build stronger ties with global allies. The discussion also pointed out the importance of building local skills in climate science through organized training, expert technical staff, and defined duties. Aurangzeb noted that steady institutions and lasting technical skills remain vital for long-term climate adaptation, carbon reduction, and emergency preparation.

Govt Seeks Funding for Climate Resilience

Aurangzeb underlined the importance of gathering local funds and working with international development organizations to pay for disaster readiness and climate strength. He urged leaders to fund priority areas and build practical projects that show clear results. The finance minister thanked Malik for his work while leading the NDMA and offered good wishes to Hasan Khattak as he takes over the agency.
