Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon open the newly finished first phase of a model prison located in Sector H-16, Islamabad, following the completion of initial construction.

Occupying 90 acres, this initial phase holds room for 1,000 prisoners across three newly built barracks.

Authorities will move all inmates from Islamabad currently held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to the new site once it opens.

Insiders indicate a chance that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan might also be moved to the Islamabad facility.

Workers have finished building the superintendent home, twelve officer flats, and a three-storey staff barracks during this first phase.

The grounds now feature a 32-bed hospital, two watchtowers, 34 security posts, an administrative block, and a kitchen.

Total expenses for the prison reached Rs7 billion, and personnel are now assigned to run the location, while Capital Development Authority employees will operate the hospital.

Cleaning crews currently work at the site, and a second phase of development will follow later.

Islamabad Chief Commissioner and Capital Development Authority Chairman Sohail Ashraf toured the Islamabad Jail area to check the construction status, progress, and expected completion schedule.

The Capital Development Authority Chairman walked through different areas to evaluate the building work and infrastructure development.

Officials provided him with a progress update, and he talked with appropriate staff about construction quality and adherence to set guidelines.
