Starting October 30, 2026, Pakistan Railways will hand over the Karakoram Express to the private firm Prime Rail, according to a recent announcement. The train runs between Karachi and Lahore. This move forms part of an ongoing strategy by Pakistan Railways to incrementally shift mail and express train services to private operators.
Pakistan Railways stated that it will handle ticket reservations for the Karakoram Express until October 29, 2026. Prime Rail assumes control of ticket sales and associated train operations beginning October 30. Furthermore, the private company obtained authorization to begin taking reservations for the train.
