The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has put forward a draft that would see full applications for radio-based service licences handled within 15 working days, according to the Draft Radio-Based Services (RBS) Regulations, 2026.
The proposed timeframe is intended to give a clear schedule for licence processing and more certainty to organisations that want permission to run radio communication services.
This schedule would only apply to applications that are complete and satisfy the required documentation and regulatory conditions.
The draft rules cover a range of radio-based services, such as Land Mobile Private Networks (LMPN) using very high frequency (VHF), microwave links, Mobile Satellite Applications (MSA), Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) and amateur radio.
These services meet communication needs across various sectors and fall under PTA's regulatory oversight.
PTA has also called on licence holders and other relevant bodies to provide feedback on the proposed rules.
Stakeholders are asked to use a set proforma to point out specific provisions, suggest changes and explain the reasons for their recommendations.
The consultation will let stakeholders comment on the licensing framework before it is finalised.
