A fresh regulatory framework for radio-based services featuring a 10-year licence term has been proposed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. The authority requested input from relevant organizations and industry participants regarding the Draft Radio-Based Services (RBS) Regulations, 2026, ahead of setting final rules.
Several categories of radio-based services fall under the new framework, such as Land Mobile Private Networks (LMPN) using very high frequency (VHF), microwave links, Mobile Satellite Applications (MSA), Mobile Satellite Services (MSS), and amateur radio.
Licensing and regulation of these services under the authority of the PTA form the core purpose of the proposed rules.
How to Submit Feedback
Licensees and additional stakeholders were instructed by the PTA to provide their comments using a designated form. Respondents need to state their licence category and organization, point out the specific regulation they wish to discuss, propose modifications, and provide justifications for their suggestions.
Industry members and other groups can use the consultation period to voice objections regarding regulatory duties, licensing conditions, and the practical application of the draft rules. Suggested alterations to specific clauses can also be submitted to resolve operational difficulties and define requirements for various radio-based services.
Gathering input from stakeholders prior to concluding the regulations drives this feedback procedure. Reviewing the full draft remains necessary to determine exact particulars regarding licence duration, renewal steps, fees, eligibility rules, and enforcement mandates.
