Lawmakers in the Punjab government are currently drafting the Punjab Arms Amendment Act, 2026, to revise the Punjab Arms Ordinance, 1965, by increasing punishments for selling and holding unauthorized firearms.
Insiders report that the draft introduces a new Section 14-A. Authorities are weighing plans to classify unauthorized weapon offenses as non-bailable and eliminate provisions that allow parties to resolve these matters through a compromise.
The plan dictates that illegal firearm charges connected to robberies or homicides will be tried together in a single court. Furthermore, authorities will transfer all pending unauthorized weapon cases currently spread across various courts into one central court.
Officials have not yet formally enacted these proposed modifications into law.
