Punjab authorities are reviewing a proposal to construct an underpass on The Mall in front of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and Military Hospital to reduce traffic delays at Station Mor.
According to a senior district administration official, a formal plan was sent to the provincial government regarding this busy intersection. Furthermore, National Engineering Services Pakistan delivered a report advising the undertaking to transform The Mall and Peshawar Road into a signal-free corridor stretching from Koral Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
The source noted that work might begin before December concludes, pending official clearance, once teams finish the underpasses located at Race Course Park and Charing Cross. Officials are currently drafting the PC-I document to present for final sanction by the end of October.
This planned AFIC underpass is expected to enhance vehicle movement between Ammar Chowk and Motorway Chowk. The official explained that builders did not construct it simultaneously with the GPO underpass because routing all vehicles onto Haider Road via Station Mor would have created severe traffic control challenges.
At the same time, the National Highway Authority is widening the roadway stretching from Chungi No. 26 toward Motorway Chowk. Simultaneously, the Punjab Highway Department is working on the Race Course Park and Charing Cross underpasses to establish a signal-free route from Ammar Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
