Samsung plans to address battery drain in Exynos-powered Galaxy devices by pairing select Galaxy S27 models with an upcoming M2700 modem alongside the Exynos 2700 chipset.

Industry sources indicate that the M2700 offers superior power efficiency compared to older models. An industry representative stated that voltage adjustments and other enhancements allow its performance to match or beat competing hardware.

The M2700 relies on the same 4nm manufacturing node found in the Exynos Modem 5410 used for Galaxy S26 phones. Even with this shared node, the new component should draw less power, while an optical die shrink decreases the chip area by 4%.

Connectivity features also receive upgrades in the M2700. It upgrades from 3GPP Release 17 to Release 18 and enhances Non-Terrestrial Network functions for satellite links. Additionally, Samsung reportedly plans to drop Exynos Modem branding in favor of an M-series designation for upcoming modems.

Looking further ahead, Samsung intends to build the M2800 modem for the Galaxy S28 lineup on a 2nm node. This shift should boost power efficiency and free up 4nm production capacity for high-bandwidth memory used in AI servers, where Samsung builds the base logic die under the memory stack.

Samsung's System LSI division has also refined its processor designs and pushed Samsung DX to use more Exynos parts in flagship Galaxy handsets. Even so, conversations continue regarding whether the Exynos 2700 will feature in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
