Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced that the Khiyam Canal restoration in Clifton, together with sewage diversion, will be finished within two months, aiming to cut foul odor, lower health hazards and lift the neighbourhood's environment.

He shared these comments while touring the canal site, inspecting ongoing work after residents complained about commercial construction nearby.

Shah noted his visit responded to concerns from people living around the canal and mentioned that the Sindh Chief Minister had also taken note of the issue.

He explained that the Sindh Local Government Department is handling the project, which includes covering the drain and diverting sewage to solve sanitation problems. The effort seeks to improve drainage, restore Khiyam Canal and enhance the area's look.

The minister added that a clean-water canal is part of the beautification scheme, with plans for greenery and tree planting along its banks, and that finishing the work will tackle odor and unhygienic conditions for a healthier environment.

Regarding worries about construction and possible commercial activity around the canal, the minister firmly said no encroachment or unrelated building is occurring.

He further clarified that no commercial activities have been approved or permitted as part of the project.

Shah stated the main goal is to serve the public, improve environmental conditions and ensure Khiyam Canal's restoration.

He repeated that the project will be completed within the promised two-month timeframe, bringing better sanitation, greenery and overall appearance for residents.
