An excavator being hauled on a flatbed truck struck the newly installed lighting fixtures at the Margalla Enclave Underpass on Park Road in Islamabad after failing to clear the height limit.

The night-time collision smashed several expensive LED lights, resulting in losses measured in hundreds of thousands of rupees.

Broken pieces fell onto the roadway and spread across the area, also causing minor damage to other vehicles passing through.

Because the underpass had only recently opened, the damage to its new infrastructure proved especially costly and highlighted concerns over moving heavy machinery through height-restricted structures.

No major casualties or fatal injuries were reported, though bystanders stepped in after the crash and stopped the truck driver at the scene.

The precise cost of the damage and any further action against the driver were not immediately available.
