FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1, commonly called FSR 4.1, is heading to Xbox consoles and handheld devices through a partnership between Microsoft and AMD, bringing advanced upscaling technology to players.
Supported hardware includes the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Ally, Xbox Ally X, and Xbox Ally X20.
By rendering games at lower resolutions before applying machine learning to create sharper visuals, the technology lightens hardware workloads and frees up capacity for better frame rates or graphical enhancements.
Xbox Ally Gets FSR 4.1 First
Microsoft has not given a precise release date for the Xbox Series X and Series S, stating only that console support is coming soon.
Yet, ROGAllyLife states that an FSR 4.1 preview will launch for Xbox Ally devices via Armoury Crate on October 23, 2026.
This update will place an FSR 4.1 toggle inside the Command Center and bring compatibility to over 400 titles currently supporting FSR 3.1.
While an earlier report claimed the base Xbox Ally would lack support, that detail was corrected, confirming the standard model will receive the technology.
Major Benefit for Series S
FSR 4.1 may prove especially valuable for the less powerful Xbox Series S.
RAM limitations on the console have historically created hurdles for developers. Upscaling from lower internal resolutions with FSR 4.1 eases the demand for native 1080p rendering while preserving visual clarity.
Furthermore, AMD showcased performance gains achieved with FSR 4.1 in titles like The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Microsoft and AMD Continue Xbox Partnership
Xbox CTO Scott Van Vilet stated that Microsoft has partnered with AMD for over twenty years on Windows and Xbox, covering console hardware, DirectX, Advanced Shader Delivery, and AutoSR.
He noted that both companies collaborated tightly to fine-tune FSR 4.1 for Xbox systems, providing developers an extra tool to manage performance and visual fidelity.
Both corporations are also expanding their joint work toward Microsoft's upcoming Project Helix hardware.
Microsoft stated that Project Helix will incorporate FSR Diamond inside the technology driving the next generation of Xbox hardware.
At present, FSR 4.1 will debut on Xbox Ally devices first, whereas Microsoft has not yet disclosed a specific rollout schedule for the Xbox Series X and Series S.
