Updated editions of retro gaming hardware based on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis have been revealed by Analogue, with the launch of the Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ devices. Each system carries a price tag of $220, and deliveries are anticipated to start in December.
Similar to the past Super Nt released in 2018 and Mega Sg from 2019, these updated units use FPGA technology to replicate original console architecture directly on a chip rather than relying on software emulation. This lets gamers play classic 16-bit titles on current television sets with minimal delay, though users must supply their own authentic game cartridges.
Wireless Controller Support
The primary physical modification is the integration of Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless gamepad compatibility. Each device features a specific pairing button, and players can power the hardware on and off using the main wireless controller. Wired gamepads continue to work as well.
Controllers are not bundled with either system by Analogue. Working vintage-style gamepads like the M30 and SN30 from 8BitDo are priced near $30 individually.
USB-C, SD Card and New Operating System
The Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+ incorporate USB-C power delivery, a USB-A port, alongside an SD card slot. The USB-A connection allows players to hook up CRT monitors or power up gamepads.
An updated chassis and fresh operating software are also included on both systems. Players are now able to change cartridges without powering down the hardware.
More Than 2,200 Games Supported
Compatibility extends to over 2,200 titles per system, and both units lack regional restrictions according to Analogue. The Mega Sg+ retains a Sega CD port and ships with a Master System adapter included.
Display output climbs as high as 1080p, while 4K resolution is unsupported.
Price and Availability
Both systems sell for $220, excluding gamepad costs for purchasers who lack existing controllers. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in December.
