Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek secured about $15 billion in a funding round, based on Bloomberg reporting. This transaction values the enterprise at $74 billion prior to the new capital injection, positioning DeepSeek among the top artificial intelligence firms globally. Major participants in the financing include tech giant Tencent and battery manufacturer CATL.

In 2023, Liang Wenfeng established the firm in Hangzhou, China. Prior to launching DeepSeek, he managed High-Flyer, a hedge fund that funded the initial research efforts. The organization achieved worldwide recognition during early 2025 following the release of its free R1 artificial intelligence model, and subsequently introduced the V4 family alongside V4.1-Flash.

The recent financing doubled the initial objective of about $7 billion. Over recent weeks, intense investor interest drove the final amount to $15 billion. Additional participants in this round feature IDG Capital, Midea, and Geely, bringing DeepSeek total external fundraising to approximately $22 billion.

Annual revenue for DeepSeek stands at about $1 billion, which represents a doubling compared to a few months prior, though higher pricing on paid tools contributed to the growth alongside new users. The firm retained CITIC Securities to facilitate preparations for a potential Shanghai stock market listing, which might occur by 2027.

This capital injection arrived shortly after United States authorities mandated government agencies to ban DeepSeek artificial intelligence products citing security worries. Domestic investors continue supporting the business, whose open models rival leading United States laboratories like Anthropic and OpenAI. The company uses Huawei processors from China for cloud operations instead of hardware from NVIDIA.
