Law enforcement officers in Lahore will soon file first information reports against motorists caught overspeeding, following new road safety directives announced to curb crashes and boost rule adherence. Officials outlined these steps during a gathering between the Lahore Chief Traffic Officer and local transporters discussing smog and road safety, which falls under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's Safe Punjab, Safe Roads initiative.
Drivers must now acquire fitness certificates under the fresh rules, mirroring existing vehicle inspection mandates. Authorities will set up mobile medical camps to perform health and psychological evaluations on motorists, checking their color blindness, eyesight, general medical condition, and psychological wellbeing.
Transporters must hand over full driver logs to the traffic police to strengthen accountability and safety. Officials addressed smog issues and road safety topics with the transporters during the session, with the new requirements designed to lower accident rates by verifying that drivers pass specific health and psychological thresholds.
