Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo received a 30-day ban and a 255 euros fine, equal to $285.83, from the Portuguese Football Federation after walking out on the national squad following an argument with manager Jorge Jesus.
On Monday, the disciplinary council of the federation revealed this ruling, confirming the penalty for the 41-year-old player.
Because of arguments regarding his participation on the squad, Ronaldo departed from the training base in Copenhagen prior to a Nations League fixture against Denmark.
This argument came after a game versus Norway where Ronaldo stayed on the substitutes' bench, leading him to claim that Jesus broke commitments about his playing time on two occasions.
Ronaldo stated that remarks from Jesus in a press briefing and a subsequent talk with federation leader Pedro Proenca caused him to exit the camp.
Jorge Jesus rejected the claim that any deal existed with Ronaldo, though he stated a comeback was possible after a 2-1 win for Portugal.
Article 160(1) of the disciplinary rulebook was intentionally breached by Ronaldo, according to the disciplinary body, which started a case on October 9 regarding an event reported two days prior.
The governing body did not specify which fixtures or events fall under the ban, nor did they state if a prior provisional suspension counts toward the 30-day period.
Ronaldo published a statement exceeding 1,700 words to media outlets in Portugal after exiting, which he then posted online.
His message included an apology for walking away from his squad members and for not greeting fans after the Norway game.
Pedro Proenca stated that staff members backing Ronaldo's comeback to the squad remain united once the situation is settled.
