Manchester City striker Erling Haaland shared an emotional reunion with former team-mate Andrea Norheim after spearheading his side to a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old forward bagged the winner in Germany as Enzo Maresca's side secured the triumph, leaving the stadium with another vital three points in Europe. Haaland notched his 14th goal of the campaign after City had been pegged back twice by Leipzig, capping off another stellar night on the pitch.

As the Etihad favourite made his way through the Red Bull Arena tunnel following the final whistle, he bumped into childhood friend Norheim. The pair grew up together as team-mates in the Bryne FK youth ranks in Norway, sharing formative years in club football before their careers took them across Europe.

Haaland stopped to give a hug and had a brief chat with Norheim on his way back to the City dressing room. Norheim was excited to see her long-term pal during his brief visit to Germany for the fixture.

The Childhood Connection at Bryne FK

Norheim, now 27, was the only female player in the Bryne side during their youth days and has often been credited with playing a huge role in Haaland becoming a leading marksman. German newspaper Bild previously claimed the defender taught the two-time Premier League title winner to play football when she was a girl.

However, Norheim has played down her role in shaping the career of the lethal Manchester City goalscorer. Speaking to Bild about the chance encounter, Norheim explained that they simply shared a pitch for several years during their development.

She told Bild, stating, It is been a while since we last saw each other, maybe eight years. But when I spoke to him, he recognised me immediately. It was fun talking to him. For me, he was still exactly the same as when we were younger. It is really cool that we are both here now. It was nice to see him play again.

Reflecting further on those early days in Norway, Norheim added, I certainly do not want to brag that I was the one who taught him how to play football. We trained together for many years, but that is it. He was very small, but he has always been a good player and a goal-scoring striker. He was a year younger than the rest of us but was moved up. He showed why he was good enough for that.

Champions League Context and Match Details

The heartwarming tunnel meeting followed a fiercely contested European fixture in Germany. Leipzig pushed the English visitors all the way, pegging them back twice before Haaland intervened with his decisive strike. The victory added momentum to City's European campaign under Enzo Maresca.

Norheim currently plays for the Leipzig Women team, which is how she came to be at the Red Bull Arena to witness her old friend in action. While Norheim plies her trade in Germany, Haaland continues to break records in the English Premier League and on the continental stage.

The striker's remarkable rise from the Bryne FK youth academy to the upper echelons of world football remains one of the sport's most discussed trajectories. Reunions with figures from his earliest days in football offer a rare glimpse into the grounding that preceded his global success.

What Lies Ahead for Manchester City

With the European assignment successfully navigated, Haaland and his Manchester City team-mates immediately turn their attention back to domestic duties. The fixture schedule offers no respite for the squad as they prepare for their next challenges in the Premier League.

Haaland will be looking to continue his impressive start to the season when City travel to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Maintaining his goalscoring form will be vital as City chase domestic and European silverware in a demanding campaign.
