Following the massive box office success of Zach Cregger's live-action Resident Evil movie, which crossed $361 million worldwide over a month after its release, independent developer Julian Zamora has started turning the film into a retro video game.

Zamora published a gameplay preview for 'Resident Evil: The Movie The Game' featuring the film lead, Bryan. The video depicts Bryan running from an infected dog before seeking refuge inside a barn. The protagonist then draws a weapon and shoots, though that combat action currently demands a developer pause of the active environment.

The preview embraces traditional 90s survival horror design through distinct PS1-style visuals. Zamora also brings back the traditional fixed camera perspectives that long-time players desire. Developed using the Godot engine, the project will soon feature pre-rendered backgrounds seen in early Resident Evil games.

Community feedback has been very positive, with players welcoming the return of fixed camera angles left behind by Capcom in modern franchise entries. Zamora is not the first creator to merge the film with the franchise, as an earlier creator added a playable Bryan skin over Leon inside the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Some players have expressed worry regarding possible copyright disputes. Since large studios such as Sony Pictures own the movie rights, legal challenges might endanger the unofficial game adaptation, though supporters still expect Zamora to complete the large undertaking.
