Citizens can now settle sales tax on foreign mobile phones through monthly instalments to finish registration via the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System, according to the Federal Board of Revenue.

The agency updated its previous 2019 directive through Customs General Order No. 06 of 2026 to bring in this monthly payment option for qualified citizens registering imported handsets.

People who qualify under paragraphs A, B and C of the current order may choose monthly payments when submitting their applications via DIRBS.

Authorities will split the total tax into equal monthly payments determined by the months left in the financial year, counting the application month itself.

Yet, citizens bringing in a phone during June must clear the full sales tax before that month ends.

Users must clear the initial instalment using a Payment Slip ID created at the time of application. People will pay later instalments via distinct Payment Slip IDs issued on the matching date of every subsequent month.

Should a specific month lack that calendar date, the system will issue the Payment Slip ID for the final day of that month.

Citizens must settle all instalments prior to June 30, which marks the close of the financial year. People may also clear part or all of the remaining balance early.

The agency cautioned that missing a payment cutoff date means the person will be marked as a defaulter.

Authorities will treat the mobile device as unregistered and block it through DIRBS, while demanding full payment of the remaining sales tax right away.

The defaulter loses the privilege to clear the balance through instalments.
