Two senior tax officials face a 120-day suspension by the Federal Board of Revenue, according to information obtained by ProPakistani, stemming from a pen-down strike call opposing the administration's planned restructuring strategy.
Commissioner Inland Revenue Regional Tax Office Zone-I Hyderabad and Additional Commissioner Inland Revenue RTO Sargodha are the affected officials.
Official notifications from the FBR issued on October 19, 2026, state that these suspensions became effective instantly according to the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.
Mandatory daily reporting to the office of the FBR Member Administration and Human Resources is required for both individuals throughout their suspension. Attendance checks happen strictly at 9 AM, noon, and 4 PM to enforce punctuality.
Resistance to the restructuring previously came from the Inland Revenue Association. The group initially declared a pen-down strike, though they cancelled the action following discussions with the FBR Member Administration and Member Operations.
Displeasure regarding the strike notice was voiced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to insiders.
Plans are under review by the government to create specialized sales tax zones inside Large Taxpayer Offices and Corporate Tax Offices of the FBR to enhance oversight, compliance, and enforcement.
Data suggests the sales tax gap exceeds those found in income tax and federal excise duty.
Additional modifications involve granting the FBR chairman broader authority regarding appointments and dismissals, alongside recruiting private sector experts. Changes to civil service regulations might be necessary to implement these steps.
Demands for measures against corrupt staff were issued by the prime minister, who noted that workers showing better behavior and output deserve chances to improve. Persistent corruption and bad performance will face zero tolerance, he warned.
