The Sindh Wildlife Department has lodged a case against five people after a video allegedly depicting illegal hunting of migratory birds at Chotiari Dam in Sanghar spread on social media.

The clip shows a man on a boat holding a double-barreled gun, with numerous dead birds of various species piled at the front.

Following the incident, officials named two suspects, Mitho Mallah and Ustad Shafi, and listed three other participants as unidentified.

The case was submitted to the Wildlife Station Police Station in Sanghar on a complaint by Hussain Bakhsh Khoso, invoking sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Sindh Wildlife Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management Act, 2020.

According to the department, the accused are thought to have hunted the birds illegally and sold them in local markets.

The episode has heightened worries about safeguarding migratory birds at Chotiari Dam and enforcing wildlife conservation statutes.
