Local residents are demanding an immediate probe and urgent drinking water tests following four mysterious deaths among young people over a single month in suburban neighborhoods near Islamabad.

These fatalities occurred in Sarai Kharboza, Dhoke Abbasi, and Mohalla Usmania. Community members appealed directly to the Federal Health Minister to examine the occurrences and find out why people died.

While the exact reasons are still unclear, reports suggest that liver failure could have played a role in certain cases.

The father of one victim told reporters that his son was completely healthy prior to his sudden illness.

Hospital staff placed the young man on a ventilator after his health deteriorated the next day. Medical personnel told the family his liver experienced severe damage, and he passed away three days later despite medical care.

Dr. Gul Khan from Sangjani Hospital explained that sewage leaks into drinking pipes, polluted groundwater, bad sanitation, and flood damage to water sources cause waterborne illnesses in Pakistan.

He highlighted the importance of routine water testing and providing safe drinking water to residences, schools, and medical facilities.

Residents should send their drinking water to a certified lab for testing and drink boiled or filtered water, according to Dr. Khan. He additionally suggested shielding water lines from sewage mixing and seeing a doctor if signs of diarrhea or dehydration appear.

Data from the World Health Organization shows that Pakistan had 38.8 deaths per 100,000 residents in 2019 due to unsafe water, poor sanitation, and bad hygiene.

This statistic covers multiple water, sanitation, and hygiene risks rather than solely deaths from tainted drinking water.

Wasif Hayat Khan, a political and social figure, voiced worry about the deaths and demanded a clear inquiry along with lab tests for drinking water samples.

He asked officials to discover the real reasons behind the deaths and act fast to secure public health, stating that protecting the lives and well-being of citizens is a primary duty of the government.
