Gilgit-Baltistan police detained 58 individuals for posing as applicants during recruitment interviews for corporal and constable openings. Authorities moved the suspects to a station and filed formal cases under Section 419 of the Pakistan Penal Code, alongside disqualifying them from the hiring process.
Interviews are currently taking place at the Central Police Office in Gilgit for over 2,000 male and female applicants who made the shortlist. This hiring drive seeks to fill more than 800 open roles inside the police force.
A police representative told Dawn that the detained individuals showed up for interviews pretending to be other applicants. Only candidates who cleared the written test could attend the interview phase.
A spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan police stated that officials are cracking down on cheating to guarantee an honest and open hiring procedure. The representative mentioned that penalties will apply impartially to safeguard qualified applicants and preserve public trust in the selection methods.
Officials noted that the interviews follow strict merit and eligibility standards, and the final successful candidates will be announced a few days after all interviews wrap up.
