Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting refuted internet rumors alleging an army officer passed away during a Pakistan and Sri Lanka cricket fixture at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, explaining instead that the man worked for the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Through a message shared on the platform X, the official Fact Check handle of the ministry stated the individual was absent from the venue during the game and took no part in the fixture.

This response came after an online user asserted that 50-year-old Muhammad Farooq, whose father is Muhammad Azam, experienced a heart attack while the match took place. The publication claimed he passed out at the grounds and expired later at a medical facility.
The ministry reported that Farooq encountered an electrical shock, prompting his relatives to reach out to Rescue 1122. Emergency personnel then transported him to a nearby medical center.
Hospital documentation pointed to electrocution as the reason for his passing, according to the ministry, which added that investigators will handle further inquiries through established protocols.
"Linking this medical emergency to the cricket match is misleading," the statement said, adding that his employment with the PCB did not establish any connection between his death and the match.
Authorities also published documentation from the New Town Police Station regarding the event and advised citizens to check facts prior to sharing stories on the internet.
