Traffic congestion and crime rates in Islamabad are being targeted by local law enforcement after authorities slashed the count of busy road checkposts from 24 down to 12 and stepped up mobile patrols, announced Inspector General of Police Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry on Monday.
During a gathering with an Islamabad High Court Journalists Association delegation, the police chief explained that the remaining checkpoints are undergoing reorganization to minimize trouble for travelers without weakening security measures.
Authorities have dismantled checkpoints located at E-7, F-7, Daman-i-Koh, and the Motorway Link Road. Law enforcement will now depend heavier on mobile units instead of stationary posts to preserve public order and react swiftly to illegal acts.
The IGP mentioned that he directed the prompt clearance of road containers once stability returned to the capital city, permitting normal daily routines to resume.
Additionally, police will stop filing First Information Reports for speeding and lesser traffic infractions to prevent labeling individuals who maintain clear records. Automobiles operated by people lacking proper permits will be seized until owners present a valid permit.
Concerning waterpipe venues, the active crackdown follows orders issued by both the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court.
Addressing difficulties encountered since taking office, the police head stated that multiple matters demanded focus, yet conditions are slowly stabilizing. He noted that clearing containers and cutting checkpoint numbers aim to help residents while protecting public safety.
He further noted that addressing complaints from officers remains crucial for boosting force efficiency. The IGP highlighted his focus on meeting junior staff, such as constables, to grasp their difficulties.
Attendees talked about enhancing teamwork between reporters and police, stressing the fast delivery of correct, checked details to citizens.
Both parties pledged ongoing cooperation and better professional ties. The session concluded with a promise to maintain collaboration for enhanced communication and responsible news coverage.
