A standard and unmodified JAECOO 7 SHS-P plug-in hybrid SUV set a Guinness World Record in the United Kingdom by achieving the lowest fuel consumption during the National Three Peaks Challenge. The achievement highlights the Super Hybrid technology used in the JAECOO J7 SHS-P in Pakistan, where NexGen Auto and Nishat Group support it as the country's top plug-in hybrid.

What the record involved

The National Three Peaks Challenge requires climbers to ascend the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, namely Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa, while driving between them. TV presenter Ben Shephard climbed all three peaks during the attempt, while Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke handled the driving.

The journey covered 469.5 miles across motorways, country lanes and mountain roads. The driving took place through rain, high winds, sunshine and overnight conditions. The JAECOO 7 SHS-P achieved a fuel consumption of 68.7 mpg, equivalent to 24.3 km per litre.

A thoroughly verified result

The RAC witnessed the sealing and reopening of the charging port and fuel filler. Webfleet telematics and GPS tracking recorded the trip, summit evidence was gathered, and an official from Guinness World Records verified the outcome. The vehicle featured no modifications as a standard production model.

The 68.7 mpg figure reflects the specific conditions of the challenge rather than the official WLTP rating. Real-world fuel efficiency changes depending on driving style, weather, terrain and battery charging frequency.

The technology behind it

The JAECOO 7 SHS-P relies on the Super Hybrid System Plug-in, which pairs a petrol engine with electric power. It delivers up to 56 miles of electric range and charges from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes under proper conditions. The car runs on electricity for daily commutes and switches to hybrid power for extended trips.

An SUV Loved by the UK

The record coincides with strong sales for the JAECOO 7 in Britain. Reports named it Britain's best-selling new car for September 2026, and it stands as the second best-selling new car in the UK for the year so far.

Why this matters for Pakistan

The JAECOO J7 SHS-P launched in Pakistan on 1 August 2025 at the Expo Centre Lahore via the OMODA and JAECOO introduction. Backed by a USD 100 million investment and local assembly in Faisalabad through Nishat Group and NexGen Auto, it has become Pakistan's leading PHEV.

Daily city driving in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Faisalabad uses electric power, while the petrol engine runs during longer journeys. This reduces fuel pump visits and eliminates range anxiety for trips toward northern destinations like Murree, Swat and Hunza.

The Three Peaks challenge tested efficiency across motorways, mountain passes and bad weather. This performance offers reassurance to Pakistani owners driving their J7 vehicles into northern areas.

Nishat Group provides after-sales service and customer care in Pakistan, supporting the global technology credentials demonstrated by the UK record.
