JazzWorld, Pakistan's top digital platform firm, teamed up with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to host a cybersecurity awareness seminar on Thursday, gathering industry and government participants to review emerging threats and protective measures for mobile networks, digital services and critical infrastructure.
The event explored how 5G rollout, embedded SIMs (e-SIMs) and artificial intelligence (AI) affect network security and consumer protection, stressing the need for coordinated industry action to tackle evolving risks. Attendees examined ways to tighten technical safeguards, boost organisational readiness and raise awareness as more daily activities shift online.
Syed Zaheer Mehdi, Group Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at JazzWorld, said: "Cybersecurity is fundamental to building trust in Pakistan's digital future. As digital services become an increasingly important part of everyday life, protecting users, data and critical infrastructure require constant vigilance and collective action. At JazzWorld, we are committed to strengthening digital security through resilient infrastructure, advanced capabilities and close collaboration with regulators and industry partners."
A major topic was the security of next-generation mobile networks, with 5G expected to enable more sophisticated applications and connected services. Participants highlighted measures such as network segmentation, access controls, firewalls and secure interfaces to cut vulnerabilities, shield infrastructure and keep services reliable.
The seminar also looked at risks linked to the rise of e-SIMs, noting the importance of solid digital onboarding, reliable identity verification and protections against SIM-related fraud and social engineering. As mobile connectivity underpins digital transactions and essential services, safeguarding personal data and preventing identity-based fraud remain key industry priorities.
AI was identified as another focus area, with discussions on its dual role in cybersecurity. While AI tools can enhance threat detection and response, they can also be used to craft more advanced attacks. Participants stressed combining technological safeguards with employee awareness, responsible AI use and stronger organisational readiness.
Overall, the talks highlighted the necessity of ongoing cooperation among telecom operators, regulators and technology partners to share knowledge, improve security practices and counter emerging cyber threats. Through the seminar, JazzWorld reaffirmed its commitment to cybersecurity awareness, secure digital services and resilient network infrastructure as part of building a safer, more trusted digital ecosystem in Pakistan.
