Revised deadlines for four garbage transfer stations located in Karachi were made public by the Sindh government, setting three for completion by November 2026 and another by March 2027.
This information came from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while he opened the initial phase of the province's first sanitary engineered landfill situated at Jam Chakro.
Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated that the Sharafi Goth facility is currently 71.43 percent finished, with an anticipated completion date of October 30, 2026.
Construction at the Imtiaz site stands at 62.82 percent, whereas Gutter Baghicha reaches 51.92 percent completion, and both locations aim for a finish by November 30, 2026.
At the Dinga Mor location, progress is at 14.11 percent with a projected finish date of March 30, 2027.
These four locations, formerly functioning as informal dumping grounds, are undergoing modernization through the World Bank-supported Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project, known as SWEEP.
An initial target of August 2026 was missed because of challenges involving waste clearance, illegal encroachments, and delays in handing over land.
Upon finishing construction, the four facilities will process a total of 6,500 tons of garbage each day, moving collected refuse into larger trucks to haul it toward the Jam Chakro landfill for final disposal.
This disposal site forms part of a wider waste management program designed to upgrade garbage collection and disposal operations across Karachi.
