Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi announced on Saturday that the extension of Karachi's BRT Green Line from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park near Jama Cloth Market will wrap up during the fiscal year 2026-27, while noting that federal funding is already disbursed.
Hashmi urged workers to speed up construction during an unexpected inspection of the site on Saturday to ensure citizens can use the transit upgrade quickly.
According to Hashmi, crews are currently constructing stations along the 1.8-kilometer stretch connecting Numaish Chowrangi and Municipal Park, and the federal administration has provided its designated budget for the work.
Calling the Green Line a vital transit initiative, Hashmi stated it has greatly enhanced public travel options for locals. He recalled that former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif launched the venture during his term to build a contemporary mass transit network in Karachi.
The governor emphasized that Karachi requires additional large transport initiatives and improved travel amenities. He mentioned that while the 18th Constitutional Amendment restricts direct federal involvement in specific infrastructure works, the central government will maintain its backing for urban progress in Karachi.
