Lahore's district administration has asked the Punjab Home Department for supplementary funding exceeding Rs. 1.017 billion to support the three-day Basant festival scheduled for March 12, 13 and 14, 2027.
The request, sent as a summary to the Home Department, aims to cover security, traffic control, emergency response, cleanliness and other related arrangements.
The Chief Traffic Officer has asked for Rs. 461.8 million for security and traffic measures, while the proposal allocates Rs. 200 million to the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab.
It also proposes Rs. 199.8 million for the district administration to handle emergencies and unforeseen costs.
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority seeks Rs. 98.9 million for festival preparations, and Lahore's DIG Operations has requested Rs. 28.6 million for security.
Funding includes Rs. 18.5 million for the Walled City of Lahore Authority and Rs. 5.5 million for the Lahore Waste Management Company to maintain cleanliness.
Civil Defense has asked for Rs. 3.36 million, and Rescue 1122 seeks Rs. 600,000 for emergency response.
Planned use of the money involves setting up control rooms, checkpoints and field camps, as well as rooftop monitoring during the event.
Additional actions will cover traffic management, rescue operations, medical aid and sanitation, alongside public awareness campaigns.
The district management will also enforce actions against anyone making, selling or using prohibited kites and kite strings.
Reports indicate the proposed amount will set the spending ceiling for the festival, with any unspent funds to be returned to the government.
